Weekend Round Up (3-5 April) PDF Print E-mail

Here's the latest weekly referee round up. As always, we'd love to hear your comments and also, whilst you are here, please take time to vote in our poll.

Read on for this weekends summary......

St. Mirren 1-1 Hearts – Iain Brines

St. Mirren – no cards issued
Hearts – One yellow given to Thomson

Only one card issued in this game with the only incident of note being the foul given which led to the St. Mirren goal. Hearts Manager Jefferies said on this incident “we felt Marius Zaliukas won a great ball in the air - the referee saw something else”

Was this the only talking point in this game? Did Zaliukas foul Higdon which led to the freekick that St. Mirren scored from?

Rangers 1-0 Hamilton – Stevie O’Reilly

Rangers – No cards
Hamilton – One yellow issued to Neil

Hamilton’s McArthur had a goal ruled out for being offside which Hamilton Manager Billy Reid didn’t seem too disappointed with despite him feeling the goal should have stood saying "I thought it was a goal but I'm not angry. The officials have got to make decisions" in his post match interview.

You can see a clip of the incident here http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=a2t4qa&s=5

We’d love to hear your thoughts on whether the ‘goal’ should have stood or not.

Motherwell 0-1 Falkirk – Craig Thomson

Motherwell – No cards
Falkirk – No cards

A card free game which seemed to pass off without any incidents from a refereeing perspective. Is this a fair reflection of Craig Thomson’s game?

Kimarnock 2-0 Aberdeen - Mike Tumilty

Kimarnock - 2 yellow cards issued to Hay and Russell
Aberdeen - 4 yellow cards issued to Mulgrew, Fyvie, Mackie and Paton

Mike Tumilty had an eventful afternoon with a couple of key decisions up for debate. The first of those was his decision not to rule Killie's first goal offside. Grassi turned a Severin shot into his own net, however, Kevin Kyle was clearly in an offside position behind him. The Assistant Referee closest also raised their flag. Splrefs.com has been contacted by an ex-Grade 1 ref who felt that Kyle was clearly seeking to gain an advantage and influenced Grassi's decision to play the ball. However, Tumilty chose to overule his Assistant and let the goal stand. We assume it would have been because Kyle was behind the defender and not between Grassi and the ball.

Tumilty then opted to issue a yellow card to Aberdeen's Paton when he got involved in a wrestling match with Killie's Hammill. Killie fans felt he raised his hands so should have gone, however, it would certainly have been a harsh decision had Paton got his marching orders.

Overall, Tumilty issued 6 cards with 4 going to Aberdeen players, keeping up his high card count as the man in the middle of dons games.

Did Tumilty call these big decisions correctly? Are there other decisions worthy of debate? We would love to hear the views of the fans and referees.

Hibs 0-1 Celtic - Charlie Richmond

Hibs - 5 yellow cards issued to Thicot, McCormack, Bamba, Miller and Nish
Celtic - 3 cards issued to O'Dea, N'Guemo and Fortune

8 cards were issued in this card-happy affair with a controversial penalty decision thrown in for good measure.

Hibs were shown 5 of those cards and were also perhaps harshly penalised for Stokes' challenge on McGeady, which resulted in Robbie Keane scoring from the spot.

Celtic also claimed for a penalty in the 17th minute when Murray handled the ball, however, Richmond did not entertain the Celtic shouts.

Despite 8 cards being shown no further incidents were reported. Would you say that was a fair assumption or is there more to debate?

St Johnstone 0-1 Dundee Utd - Steve Conroy

St Johnstone - 2 yellow cards issued to Duberry and Deuchar
Dundee Utd - 1 yellow card issued to Gomis

Steve Conroy had one key decision to make in this game of relatively few cards. Anderson was fortunate not to be booked in the first half when he sycthed down Danny Swanson but there was very little by way of decision-making in this half. The 2nd half, however, was different with St Johnstone being awarded a penalty for Dixon's foul on McKay. Conroy slowed up Craig, asking him to re-spot the ball, and the St Johnstone man's spot-kick was stopped by Pernis.

Did you feel there were other incidents of note that we have not covered? Should Conroy have delayed the penalty? How would you rate Conroy's performance overall?

Over to you as always.....
